Jesse McCormick (Liberal, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo) served as the Senior Indigenous Fellow at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and is a Co-Founder of the Justice and Corporate Accountability Project, a legal clinic that advises communities dealing with the impacts of resource development projects in the Americas and Africa. He served as the Director of Policy and Indigenous Relations for the Minister of Environment and Climate Change from 2017-2019, supporting the development of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas and advising the Minister on the development of the Impact Assessment Act, which requires government to consider of the impacts of projects on climate change, environmental protection and Indigenous rights. As the Director of Rights Implementation for the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of Canada, he helped advance federal legislation to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
